Over 7 days, 32, children under five years of age were vaccinated against measles and received one dose of vitamin A. A new NIDs guideline was finalised and used in NID provincial micro-planning, with health workers from almost all accessible municipalities participating.
FAA actively participated in some provinces, particularly in Bie. Three cold chain facilities were approved for construction in Kuito, Luanda and Lubango. The development of this activity includes technical assistance for the development of national norms for cold chain construction.
The norms are now available and are under review by the MoH. The construction of the municipal cold chain in Kuito will be at the provincial hospital to better guarantee security and power sources.
To address the shortage of vaccinators in Kuito, the training of all health workers in vaccination techniques was agreed upon. This approach was approved during the last ICC and will help overcome several missed opportunities to vaccinate children and will also support the integration of EPI activities within basic health care. There has been a broadening of the partnership with the private sector in Roll Back Malaria and the promotion of mosquito nets.
An ITU was opened in the Kuito provincial hospital. Following the training of 7 health workers in net impregnation techniques, nets were impregnated and will be used in the hospital to protect patients and to educate both health workers and patients about the advantages of using nets.
