We are Slut Drop. But, every now and then, we come up against financial obstacles After five years our equipment is getting a bit exhausted. Up until now Slut Drop equipment has been paid for out of our own pockets. All the money we make is split with our lovely co-operative space CHUNK and we are at a point now where we humbly ask for you - our lovely community - to help to raise funds. You prop us up and have allowed Slut Drop to become what it is. I remember how nervous I was, but in hindsight it was the best first gig for me to play For me, Slut Drop stands for equality and pushing boundaries in terms of the DJs they book and the left-field sounds that they push Long live Slut Drop! It really opens up the ability for people who aren't male or don't identify as male to have more confidence to jump behind the decks and play whatever they want, learn and embrace their identity via the music they play, but also in a safe environment where we can all just party together and have fun!
Representation matters!!! It's helped me to achieve more confidence when playing out. The idea of getting behind the decks just seemed daunting to meβ¦. Slut Drop Open Decks was the first ever place I had a go at mixing.
After plenty of encouragement to help me overcome my anxiety, it turned out to be something I actually enjoy doing a lot! Over time I got involved more with the music scene here in Leeds and even got to play my first set at an event this March!
As a community it is the most friendly and open place I've ever attended, standing as an example of what no judgment and freedom of expression can mean It has helped me achieve a state of confidence and happiness in performance, previously I would be nervous and self conscious performing, but due to the efforts at SLUT DROP I'm now able to feel free in any room or stage I play.
