It was our first trip to Thailand and Koh Samui which i loved. We stay near Lamai at Samaya Bura ,fabulous hotel I have reported on the hotel forum. What I did'nt like about Lamai was the girlie bars to me they were nothing more than brothels ,I hated seeing the very old men fawning over the very young girls,call me old fashion but I found this upsetting.
So please as I would love to return to Koh Samui can any one tell me of an area that it a liitle more sedate and quiet. Lamai does indeed have a reputation for this type of "entertainment". The presence of these bars in other parts of samui will range from "less so" to none at all. Chaweng will have a few, but less obvious than in Lamai. If you venture up to Choengmon and north of there, round the north of the island, I wouldn't think that you'd be bothered by them at all.
In terms of lovely hotels with pools, nice beach etc, there are plenty to choose from in Chaweng and Choengmon. It all depends on your budget. There was a distinct lack of this kind of thing in Bophut too. When you say Bophut I think you mean Fisherman's Village. Bophut proper has just as many Lady Bars as anywhere else on the Island.
Welcome to Thailand and all the horrible old men and gorgeous Thai girls. I think Lamai is the worst. PS Dont go to Patong on Phuket - they are everywhere! There is another view possible. The girls have to make a living and the living of their familes and they do not care how "horrible" a man might look for others.
They give him the feeling to be respected and supposedly loved. How many marriages break in other parts of the world? How often is it happening that the husband has to follow the ambitions of his wife and suddenly after 20 years he is alone as she found out in the meantime who she really is Then he does not have any "value" for other relationships as he has to pay for the support of his ex who is too old to earrn her own living.
