Brown was elevated from the practice squad Saturday. Brown saw just six offensive snaps back in Week 2 during his first stint on the active roster this season, but it's possible the fourth-year wideout could see an increased role with Marquez Valdes-Scantling hamstring on injured reserve.
That being said, a lion's share of the workload is seemingly always guaranteed to the likes of Davante Adams, Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb, leaving St. Brown a high-end depth piece. Valdes-Scantling hamstring was placed on injured reserve Saturday. This was hardly a surprise given Valdes-Scantling was expected to miss a couple of weeks. Equanimeous St. Brown was elevated to the active roster from the practice squad, but it's likely Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb and Amari Rodgers will see an increased workload alongside usual stalwart Davante Adams.
Once Green Bay makes the move official, Valdes-Scantling will miss at least the next three games due to the hamstring injury that he suffered this past Sunday in San Francisco.
However, when the clock starts to tick on his absence remains to be seen. Brown, Juwann Winfree and Chris Blair are candidates to be called up from the practice squad on a weekly basis. Lazard has mostly contributed to the Packers with his blocking this year, but he could see more targets this weekend with teammate Marquez Valdes-Scantling hamstring ruled out against the Steelers, Jason Wilde of ESPN.
Lazard has seen just five targets through three games, despite playing percent of snaps in each contest. He may get more snaps and perhaps a few more targets, but it's still more or less the same story in Green Bay's offense, with volume unpredictable beyond Aaron Jones and Davante Adams. Smith back will be out for an extended period after having surgery earlier this week, but the Packers are hoping he'll return at some point this season, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. Based on initial reports, there's at least some chance the surgery turns out to be season-ending.
