Contact Admin. The investigation into an alleged Mae Hong Son sex trade ring is in progress and action will be taken against police found involved, Provincial Police Region 5 commissioner Pol Lt Gen Poonsap Prasertsak said on Sunday.
Pol Lt Gen Poonsap was referring a complaint made via the mass media by Namphet Koeyphutsa, 43, of tambon Pang Mu in Mae Hong Son's Muang district, that her year-old daughter had been forced by a police senior sergeant major of Nam Phiang Din police station in tambon Pha Bong to use drugs. After the girl became addicted to drugs, she was forced into prostitution and have sex with many well-known people in Mae Hong Son, including police, teachers and highway department officials, the woman alleged.
He said the case came to light in November when a suppression drive against sex trade was launched in the province and many people were arrested in different cases. Pol Lt Gen Poonsap said Mrs Namphet, who was a police informant on drugs and crime, happened to see information on the sex trade with a picture of her daughter given to her by an agent.
The police, in a sting operation, contacted a woman called "May" to supply a girl, but the woman did not show up. May finally surrendered and became a suspect. The investigation was still in progress.
The police senior sergeant major had been moved to temporary duty in Phrae province. As for the case against May, the prosecutors on Feb 20 ordered the police to bring Mrs Namphet and her daughter for questioning.
